Shasha presents Kalonji. The kalonji, or Nigella seeds, is an interesting spice when used for tempering, it adds a beautiful aroma to the dishes, and a hint of flavour that you cannot quite nail. The seeds have a slightly bitter flavour and resemble cumin or oregano, depending on whom you ask. To me they taste like the bits of burned onion, poppy and sesame seeds that fall off of a toasted everything bagel.
